Italic font support only works after running PackUpdate in Neovim

Hi 👋, I am running Neovim v0.3.1 on macOS, and am using Neovim inside tmux 99% of the time, and am using a custom term entry that supports italic font. However italic font only renders when in Neovim after running

PackUpdate

inside Neovim. If I do not run the above command then italic font is not rendered in Neovim. This asciicast demonstrates that behavior.
