I’m testing https://github.com/splicemachine/node-jdbc with Splice Machine on 1528 and derby on 1527, Monte’s original idea. I like this way better were we to ever try to merge our fork to public. It doesn’t change any of their Derby configuration.
I was able to get all the tests running just like when I moved Derby to another port. PoC
Note: Significant wait times have been removed with -w 0.5 argument to asciinema.

Generate GIF from this recording
While this site doesn't offer GIF conversion at the moment, you can still do it yourself with the help of asciinema GIF generator utility - agg.
Once you have it installed run the following command to create GIF file:
