Install Anaconda from www.continuum.io/downloads and ensure that the Anaconda installation is on your path. Install MKL for faster computation (conda install mkl) and update to the latest packages (conda update --all). You should now have a working Python installation with fast NumPy.

Not shown: Register on Anaconda Cloud with your university e-mail address, download the license (under My Settings > Add Ons) and install it. This allows you to use MKL indefinitely.
