A textual mouse pointer in a terminal can be very helpful when making CLI recordings with Asciinema (asciicasts). This one is implemented with the Python textual library. It seems like there is no way, though, to implement this outside the respective app in order to be used by any app like the “normal” mouse pointer (which cannot be recorded in asciicasts). The character can be any Unicode character, incl. emojis.

While this site doesn't provide GIF conversion at the moment, you can still do it yourself with the help of asciinema GIF generator utility - agg.
